Let's go to the movies!

Back in the US I tend to enjoy watching movies vs. tv shows and at home rather than in the theatre.  I'm not sure why but this is my preference.

However, I've never been to a movie theater in a foreign country and I was interested in a lazy day outside the apartment but also away from the ever intensifying heat.  So as luck would have it, I was walking by this stadium in Plaça d’Espanya and realized it was a mall (well, at least they're using it for something vs. letting it sit dormant right?).   I decided to walk around and  voilà!  A movie theater!

[Side note: I was informed of the proper spelling of voilà as opposed to me continuing to spell it phonetically.  However, did you know the synonym of voilà (per microsoft word) is "hey presto"?  True story]

This stadium was built in 1899 for bullfighting but Catalans never took to bullfighting so now it's a mall and I believe, they hold concerts here as well.

Again, I want to reiterate that I am here in Spain to practice spanish but in no way am I ready for a movie which embodies any real in depth plot.  Also, I like cartoons so I decided since I didn't get a chance to hijack a relative's or friend's outing with their children, I'd go see Madagascar 3: The March to Europe!

I feel ya' guys... I feel the same way about seeing a moving in Spanish!

Usually I have a strict rule against going to kids movies alone because I feel it freaks parents out (I polled friends and family - they agree, it's weird) but I figure its a Monday and everyone is on vacation so I should be ok.  Thankfully, I only freaked a handful of parents out.  I tried to mitigate this by sitting as far up/back as possible and looking as inconspicuous as I could given the situation.

Happy to report that I was able to understand most of what the characters were saying and I completely got the plot!    Who knows, maybe by my last week here I'll be ready for a PG-13 movie???  Hey, we all need goals.

Yummy popcorn!  They actually have two kinds here, salty and sweet.  The sweet is multicolored popcorn... sort of the colors found in fruity pebbles.  I didn't try it, but maybe next time.
