Following are random sights around the city which don't fit in a tidy topic heading but are worth sharing.
The fire department. I wish the bay doors were open as there was a very old fire truck (likely circa 1940) housed inside.
Not sure what this building is but I thought the architecture and colors were nice.
The entrance to China Town; small but very typical "China Town" that you'd see in most any other country (not sure about China itself but I'll make the broad assumption anyway)
The pedestrian bridge across Darling Harbour. Thankfully it wasn't a suspension bridge (which sway) and I was able to make it across without tossing my cookies.
The Star - entrance to the casino
It took longer to take pictures of the casino than it did to lose my money.
A very different type of crepe than in France.
A recommendation to go see the sunset over the harbor and to enjoy a drink. A $20 minimum for credit cards meant double the drinks. After laughing and inquiring whether I was driving or not, the guy at the counter happily dropped off my drinks. No judging - the views were worth the stares!
Everyone out enjoying the last of the day's light and in the background, the Opera House.
The skyline at dusk
Setting sun reflecting off the Opera House
The walkway around the Opera House and along the harbor.
After a day of watching the sun set and enjoying some wine (I know, it's tough!) I decided to head out for some Sushi. A little high end for a solo Saturday night dinner but oh was the food so worth it. (It's been a while since I've posted food pictures so enjoy!)
Ahi tuna with a mix of jalepenos, avocado and peppers with edemame.
Salmon sushi roll with cucumber. Oh so yummy
And for dessert - three sorbets atop mini chocolate cakes. The vanilla and raspberry sorbets are my favorite; I'm still not sure I'll ever acquire a taste for green tea sorbet
Post dinner treat - fireworks over Darling Harbor.
And after three continents and five different cities I could have taken a tour bus, I finally decided to hop on/hop off in Sydney! What a neat idea. I mean its slow as molasses (the delicious byproduct of the sugar cane process as we learned in Cairns) but still you hear a lot of interesting tidbits.
A few sights passed as we drove through the streets of downtown Sydney over to Bondi beach - I love fresh fruit vendors
Supposedly an icon of Kings Cross section of town- the giant Coke Cola sign which not only glares red at night, it also conveniently is located in the red light district.
What the hell is a "meat raffle"?
First stop I hop off: Bondi Beach! Its absolutely gorgeous here though do not be fooled by the following pictures. The water is freakin' freezing this time of year. I wouldn't even say it was warm enough to be laying out.
Double decker bus in a tunnel is interesting.
I was happy to see a sign for Central Park though it doesn't appear to be like the park I know in NYC.
