Taking a boat just across the harbor, you can achieve two touristy items in one venture; see the harbor and see some kangaroos.
Below: The Harbor Bridge from the port.
The Sydney skyline from the Harbor.
I understand that you've probably seen a lot of the Harbor Bridge and Opera House in every Sydney blog I've posted, but all in one shot was so good, I had to share.
Fort Denison - for $7 ASD you can hope off, enjoy some food and wait for the next boat to come fetch your ass because this is the sight in its entirety. To be fair, I'm not really sure what this is or why its a destination on the harbor cruises but I would have hopped off had the destination not been the zoo.
Enjoying some rays and views from the boat.
After a very short but very cold ride across the harbor we arrived at the Taronga Zoo.
Tickets included not only the ferry ride and zoo entrance but a short sky-safari cable car; perfect to conjure up excitement as you float over the animals!
Thank goodness for this shot because as you'll see later, there was only one view the elephants were giving us at ground level.
A komodo dragon taking in some spring rays.
A turtle with a very long neck (and behind extremely reflective glass!)
Giraffes.
If you look on top left on top the pole to the right, you can see two monkeys sitting there. There is also one climbing down the ropes (bottom middle)
Look straight in the middle near the bottom, you can see him peeking through his legs.
Look to the middle and you can see one hanging from the rope (between the two sets of trees)
Excitement peaked but was quickly extinguished when it was realized the African Waterhole was not a bar.
Mountain goats
A hippo enjoying some lazy time in the morning sun.
I forget what these things are called but I think the one to the right was getting ready to divulge his life story.
Below: caged pigeons
Next to the caged pigeons is a free flight bird show..... isn't that what pigeons are normally?
A view of the city from the top of the zoo
A peacock flaunting its feathers.
A rather large tortuous
Unfortunately this must be this elephant's best side today because they were not turning around for anyone or anything.
That is one chilaxed emu - just hanging out in the area of the kangaroos and wallabies. Apparently a friendly bird, as it stood in the middle of the path you could see people slowly walking at a distance around it; paying close attention as to how close to the bird they got. It was rather entertaining to watch.
Two kangaroos just lazily lounging
More kangaroos
Pelicans and ducks living in perfect harmony
A sea lion who was rescued after his mother was ingested by a shark. I think she enjoyed showing off.
Lovely! Make sure you also:
ReplyDelete* take a ferry ride to Manly, walk around to Shelly Beach, eat at Garfish or the Bower restaurant or Hugo's
* have a champagne at the Opera House at sunset while standing outdoors to watch the ferries zip back and forth
* eat Thai food at Sailor's Thai in the Rocks
* drink at a cool old pub in the Rocks
* walk along the cliff path between Bondi and Bronte
* swim in the ocean at beautiful Bronte beach, where I live (but you have to be a strong swimmer). Then grab a coffee or juice at one of the beachside cafes
* if you are still there on October 18, don't miss Sculpture by the Sea along the Bondi Beach to Tamarama coastal walk
* spend a few days in the Blue Mountains walking the park trails. I recommend the National Pass Trail for cliffs and waterfalls and "the grand stairway" and breathtaking views.
* great eating in the Blue Mountains too
* take a ferry to Watsons Bay, look at the views back to the Harbour Bridge from the cliffs then turn around and admire the ocean view, then have a long seafood lunch, or a beer at the hotel, or fish and chips in the park. On the ride you'll see lots of swanky suburbs and homes
Have fun!!
